Playa del Carmen
has changed from a sleepy Mexican Caribbean fishing village into a
popular vacation destination for tourists from around the globe -
and the hotel Blue Parrot has been there to see it all!
Even 10 years ago, most visitors thought of Playa del Carmen as the
mainland ferry boat stop for Cozumel Island. The owners of the hotel Blue
Parrot saw things differently nearly two decades ago when they
opened the hotel. They thought the white sand beaches of Playa del
Carmen and the beautiful blue Caribbean waters were the things
vacation dreams were made of. In their eyes, Playa del Carmen had
its own marvels to reveal, including activities for all interests.
When the Blue Parrot was first built, Playa del Carmen
was simply a small number of shops clustered around the Cozumel
ferry dock. There was not even a road "all the way" down at 12th
Street. In those days, hotel guests walked down the sandy beach to
their rooms and bellhops carried the luggage to the hotel in
wheelbarrows.
 There wasn't much to do then, either, so the
Hotel Blue Parrot built
the now famous Dragon Beach Bar. The swings in place of bar stools,
sandy floor, and ocean view are still part of the most visited bar
in Playa del Carmen. Even people who have lived in Playa del Carmen
for 10 years still come to the Dragon Beach Bar for happy hour every
week.
These days, 12th Street and the Hotel Blue Parrot Inn are the center of
the new Playa del Carmen. Playa del Carmen's famous Quinta Avenida /
5th Avenue outdoor pedestrian mall has all types of shops and
restaurants, and "all the way" down at 12th Street are some of the
coolest and best new restaurants and stores.

The Blue Parrot Group and its parent company the Blue Parrot are
a dream and concept begun on the shores of the tranquil Mexican
Caribbean. A man who decided that living once was enough, just as
long as you know how to live, left the shores of his native America
and settled to play host to the wanderers exploring the untamed and
beautiful Yucatan peninsula.
Nestled amongst the Mayan ruins, natural cenotes, and pristine
seaside the Blue Parrot began it's journey into the unknown
future. With only eight comfortable hotel rooms and a small
restaurant, on what was then considered the outskirts of town, Rick
Jones began to create the legend of the Blue Parrot. This legend has
been chronicled in the New York Times, London Sunday Times, Newsweek
magazine, Fodor's Guide to Mexico and many more.
No one then, least of all Rick, knew that years later the Blue
Parrot Group would emerge as one of the most famous hotels, cultural
centers and developers in the Cancun - Tulum corridor.
Amongst the evolution of the Blue Parrot Group, is still the heart and soul of the operation and continues to be a
mainstay in Playa del Carmen's hospitality industry. The hotel is

More About the Blue Parrot
 Over the years, the
hotel Blue Parrot has had an incredible amount of
return guests. Repeat business is the highest compliment a hotel can
receive. Year after year, guests return to enjoy Playa del Carmen,
and specifically the Blue Parrot.
While sitting on the Mexican Caribbean beach, or sipping a cool
drink in the shade, the Blue Parrot guests often dream about
staying forever, of being a part of this wonderful way of life in
Playa del Carmen, Mexico. How many times while on vacation have you
wished you could stay forever?
From that demand, from those wishes was born the saying "Come to
Paradise. And Stay".
Why not create a home for those who want to stay in Mexico? This was
the question Rick Jones posed. As he has learned, dreams do come
true and the creation of the Blue Parrot Cielo Condominiums
materialized. The goal was to create dwellings for people that
meshed with the natural surrounding to fit in, not to impose on
nature, but to blend with it.
The designs were drawn up, redesigned, redesigned again. Buyers and
the Blue Parrot "family" members sat in on endless design team
meetings in Playa del Carmen, tinkering and adjusting such things as
wall angles, kitchen space, ocean views. The list of "wishes" for
the condominiums went on.
